Mortar and Pestles by Tahir Mahmood

Tahir Mahmood, a Toronto based Graphic Designer, New Media Artist and Product designer, has brought design back into the kitchen.

His versions of the Chattoo Watta (Mortar & Pestle) can be used to grind fresh spices and pastes. Made of Dalbergia Sissoo wood, these stunning pieces are a painstaking revival of the ancient craft of lathe turning with a resin lac application. The result is a modern reminder of a culture rich in colour and traditional values.
